ART IN PORTUGAL. 1950-1960
Embracing a period of more than a hundred years, the set of 42 works of art that form the exhibition “Art in Portugal: 1850-1960”, which belongs to the MNAC-MC and the “Casa Museu Anastácio Gonçalves”, in Lisbon, reflects the expressive aspects of Portuguese contemporary art history. The set of paintings that has been chosen offers an important and thorough panoramic view of national painting and design, transmitting plastic proposals of different expressions and times, and offering Andorra a first view of our artistic heritage and its production context, in this particular case an approach to what was created from the middle of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century.
Expressing what the spoken language is unable to say, visual arts require other human abilities: the examination of faces, bodies, landscapes and wishes, laughter and fear, the representation of the real and the conception of the imaginary. All this evokes and reflects visions and emotions without which our lives would definitely be poorer, in exchange only for our attention; the same attention we give a stranger, to make him a friend or a lover.
May these windows to the Portuguese art open a space of dialogue among the visitors to the Tobacco Museum, whether Portuguese people residing in Andorra, or people from the Principality, and through these mute yet expressive ambassadors, mark the beginning of a long and period of beneficial mutual knowledge and new discovery. In a single word, complicity.

PORTUGAL E A GRANDE GUERRA
La Càtedra Camões de la Universitat d’Andorra acull al Museu del Tabac, a Sant Julià de Lòria, l’exposició “Portugal e a Grande Guerra” (“Portugal i la Gran Guerra”), fruit d’una col·laboració conjunta de la Universitat d’Andorra i el Museu del Tabac amb el patrocini de l’Institut Camões i la Fundació Julià Reig i el suport de l’Ambaixada de Portugal.
Coordinada per l’historiador Miguel Bandeira, de la Universitat de Lisboa, l’exposició qüestiona i explora els orígens, l’impacte i les memòries de la Primera Guerra Mundial (1914-1918), analitzant diversos aspectes de la participació portuguesa en aquell conflicte global. A través d’una minuciosa documentació fotogràfica, s’hi tracten els motius polítics, els moviments socials, el paper de les dones, el món de les trinxeres, els fronts africà i europeu i els impactes duradors del conflicte en la memòria col·lectiva.
“Portugal e a Grande Guerra” s’ha fet coincidir amb l’exposició “Art a Portugal: 1850-1960”, fins al 25 de maig al Museu del Tabac, ja que permet contextualitzar bona part de les obres d’art contemporani que s’hi presenten.
